Origin & Habitat:
•Native to fast-flowing rivers and streams in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra.
•Prefers rocky or sandy substrates with plenty of hiding places.
Appearance:
•Elongated body with bold vertical black stripes over a yellowish-green background.
•Often displays a blue-green iridescence.
•Grows up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
Behavior:
•Semi-aggressive and highly active.
•Territorial, especially if kept singly or in pairs.
•Best kept in groups of 5 or more to reduce aggression and promote natural social behavior.
•Can be a bit boisterous, making them unsuitable for very timid tankmates.
Aquarium Requirements:
•Tank Size: Minimum 55 gallons (larger for adult groups).
•Water Parameters:
•Temperature: 24–30°C (75–86°F)
•pH: 6.0–7.5
•Soft to moderately hard water
•Requires strong water flow, good filtration, and plenty of oxygen.
•Provide hiding spots with driftwood, rocks, and caves.
•Substrate should be smooth to protect their barbels.
Diet:
•Omnivorous. Will accept:
•Sinking pellets
•Live/frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp)
•Occasional vegetables or algae wafers
Compatibility:
•May nip at long-finned or slow-moving fish.
•Can coexist with other robust and active species.
•Not ideal for peaceful community tanks.
Breeding:
•Rarely bred in captivity.
•Breeding behavior and requirements not well documented outside of commercial fish farms.
