Physical Description

  • Body Shape: Deep-bodied and laterally compressed
  • Coloration: Metallic blue with subtle green and turquoise hues, often with faint vertical barring
  • Fins: Broad and rounded, with an iridescent sheen and occasional red or orange accents on the edges

 

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 55 gallons for a single fish, 75+ gallons for a pair

    • Water Flow: Moderate, with clean and well-oxygenated water

    • Slightly warmer water (26–28°C) and frequent water changes can trigger spawning
    • Pairs form strong bonds and exhibit parental care, guarding eggs and fry
  • Fry Care: Once hatched, fry can be fed baby brine shrimp or finely crushed flake food
