RED TAIL PENGUIN TETRA

Common Name: Red Tail Penguin Tetra

Scientific Name / Trade Identification: Not confirmed — supplied under the Red Tail Penguin trade name

SPECIES OVERVIEW

A red-tailed trade tetra offered as a colourful alternative for a planted community display. Maintain a group with ample swimming room and avoid companions that are aggressive or small enough to be swallowed.

CARE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Aquarium Size: 100 litres or larger

Temperament: Active shoaling tetra; observe compatibility

Care Level: Intermediate; a mature, stable aquarium is recommended.

WATER PARAMETERS

Temperature: 24–26°C

pH: 6.0–7.0

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water; match the water conditions of the arriving stock.

Ammonia/Nitrite: 0 ppm

These are aquarium maintenance guidelines. Stable conditions and gradual acclimation are more important than rapidly chasing a target.

AQUARIUM SETUP

Provide planted or shaded areas, driftwood and open swimming space. Use effective filtration and regular partial water changes. Avoid adding fish to a newly cycled or unstable aquarium.

DIET & FEEDING

Offer appropriately sized quality tropical flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. Feed small portions and check that quieter fish receive food.

TANKMATES

Choose similarly sized, peaceful fish with compatible water requirements. Avoid large predators, aggressive fish and persistent fin-nippers. Monitor interactions when introducing a new group.

GROUP SIZE

Keep at least six, preferably eight to ten or more where aquarium space allows. Provide cover and watch for persistent chasing, especially between displaying males.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This trade name is used inconsistently. It is kept separate from the standard Penguin Tetra, and no exact species or collection locality is assigned without supplier confirmation.

Sold un-sexed unless specifically stated. Natural colour, markings and fin development vary with age, sex, lighting and condition.
