The Redline Rasbora (Rasbora pauciperforata) is a stunning and peaceful freshwater species, ideal for a planted community tank. Known for its beautiful red stripe along its body, this fish originates from the tannin-stained peat forest streams and swamps of Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and Sumatra.
Appearance:
The Redline Rasbora features a sleek body with a distinct red stripe running along its sides. Its coloration intensifies when it is well-settled in an aquarium with dense plants and darker substrates.
Aquarium Care:
This shoaling species thrives when kept in groups of at least 6, though 10 or more is preferable. A mature, heavily planted tank with a dark substrate, driftwood, and shaded areas helps these fish feel comfortable. The peaceful nature of this species makes it an excellent addition to a community tank with similarly-sized, non-aggressive fish.
Tank Mates:
Redline Rasboras do well with other small, peaceful species that enjoy soft, acidic water conditions. Suitable tank mates include other rasboras, small barbs, pencilfish, and kuhli loaches. Avoid housing them with larger or more aggressive species that might cause stress.
Feeding & Nutrition:
These rasboras are omnivorous and will accept a wide variety of foods, including high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia.
Breeding:
Redline Rasboras are egg layers. Breeding them in captivity may be achieved by providing a well-planted environment with soft, acidic water conditions. However, they scatter their eggs and provide no parental care.
