The Red Beckford’s Pencilfish is a highly sought-after schooling community fish known for its small size and vibrant coloration. It occupies the top and middle levels of the water column and is safe with other peaceful, small fish. Adult dwarf shrimp are generally safe, though the fish may eat smaller shrimp and fry. They thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried meaty foods.

Tank Requirements: The Red Beckford’s Pencilfish should be kept in schools of six or more. They require an aquarium setup with soft, acidic water rich in tannins and leaf litter. A soft substrate and ample refuge areas with plants and decorations are essential. These fish prefer environments that mimic their natural habitat, providing plenty of open swimming space and subdued lighting.
