Maingano (Pseudotropheus Cyaneorhabdos)

 

The Maingano is a striking mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, instantly recognisable for its bold electric-blue body with darker horizontal stripes. Active and territorial, this species thrives in a rocky aquarium and is best kept in groups with other Malawi cichlids. Its intense colours and lively behaviour make it a favourite among African cichlid keepers.

Compatibility

  • Best kept in groups with 1 male and several females to disperse aggression.

  • Suitable with other mbuna of similar size and temperament.

  • Avoid housing with peaceful or delicate community fish.

 

Breeding

  • Maternal mouthbrooder.

  • Females hold eggs and fry in their mouths for 3 weeks before release.

  • Provide flat rocks or caves for spawning sites.

  • Fry can be raised on finely crushed flakes or freshly hatched brine shrimp.
