Lethrinops ltehrinus

Lethrinops lethrinus is a peaceful sand-dwelling cichlid from Lake Malawi, often appreciated for its subtle beauty and shimmering silver body with soft blue or bronze highlights. Males may develop more intense coloration during breeding, while females remain more subdued. This species is part of the group commonly referred to as “sandeaters,” known for their habit of sifting through sand in search of food.

Due to their calm nature, L. lethrinus is best suited to Malawi setups with other peaceful or non-aggressive species. They do particularly well in species-only or mixed Lethrinops communities. A soft sandy substrate is essential to allow natural feeding behavior.
