Corydoras sp. CW010Gold Laser Corydoras

Family: Callichthyidae
Origin: Peru — Upper Amazon tributaries near Iquitos
Size: Up to 6 cm (2.4 inches)
Lifespan: 5–8 years

 

Natural Habitat

  • Environment: Slow-moving rainforest streams with sandy or muddy bottoms

  • Water Conditions: Soft, acidic to neutral, rich in leaf litter and organics

  • Temperature Range: 22–27°C (72–81°F)

 

Physical Description

  • Body Shape: Typical Corydoras body with a slightly high back

  • Coloration:

    • Deep bronze to olive body

    • Striking, iridescent golden stripe from the snout through the dorsal fin to the caudal peduncle

    • Dark facial mask around the eyes

  • Fins: Mostly clear to light amber

Note: Sometimes confused with Corydoras aeneus variants, but the laser stripe and darker body coloration are more vivid and defined in CW010.

 

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 60 litres (15 gallons) for a small group

  • Water Parameters:

    • pH: 6.0–7.4

    • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

    • Temperature: 22–27°C (72–81°F)

    • Water Flow: Low to moderate

  • Substrate: Fine sand preferred to protect sensitive barbels

  • Décor: Plants, driftwood, leaf litter, and shaded hiding areas

  • Filtration: Stable, clean, well-oxygenated water

 

Diet

  • Type: Omnivorous bottom-feeder

  • Preferred Foods:

    • Sinking micro-pellets, wafers, bloodworms, brine shrimp

    • Supplement with soft vegetables (e.g., cucumber, zucchini)

  • Feeding Frequency: 1–2 times daily

 

Behavior & Tank Mates

  • Temperament:

    • Peaceful and highly social; should be kept in groups of 5 or more

    • Active and curious, especially during feeding times

  • Compatible Tank Mates:

    • Peaceful community fish such as tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids

    • Avoid aggressive or large predatory species

  • Behavior Notes:

    • May rest together in groups during the day and become more active in low light

 

Breeding

  • Spawning Method: Egg layer

  • Breeding Conditions:

    • Induced with cool water changes and protein-rich foods

    • Eggs laid on glass or plant leaves

  • Fry Care:

    • Eggs hatch in 3–5 days

    • Fry require infusoria or powdered fry food before graduating to baby brine shrimp
