Common Whiptail Catfish

Rineloricaria eigenmanni

The Common Whiptail Catfish is a slender, armored species native to South America, known for its long, whip-like tail and unique twig-like appearance. Its body is flattened and camouflaged in earth tones, helping it blend into sandy and leaf-littered substrates. Despite its exotic look, it is peaceful, hardy, and well-suited to community aquariums.

This species spends most of its time on the bottom, grazing on biofilm or resting among plants and driftwood. It's best kept in groups or pairs, especially in soft, well-oxygenated water with a moderate current.
