Filtration & Maintenance:
- High-volume filtration and regular water changes are crucial due to the high waste production.
Health Considerations:
- Watch for high levels of nitrite and phosphate, which can lead to harmful algae. Common diseases include ich parasites, swim bladder disease, and bacterial infections.
Breeding:
- Although blood parrots may mate and lay eggs, they are generally infertile. In rare cases, successful spawnings have occurred when crossed with non-hybrid fish.
Additional Notes:
- Foods high in beta-carotene and canthaxanthin help maintain their vibrant colors. Regular water changes are essential, especially during breeding and for the health of the fry.
